How does a group gift work?+
You pick one gift — say, the $300 bike — and share your Budling link. Guests chip in any amount toward it; $20 and $200 both move the bar. When it's funded, we buy the gift and ship it straight to your door. No duplicates, no returns, and nobody has to organize a group text about who's paying whom.
What happens if we raise more or less than the gift costs?+
Every dollar given gets used. Contributions are collected as your event approaches, and if the gift isn't fully funded by then, you choose: top up the difference yourself, swap to a gift that fits the total, or take the full amount as a retailer gift card you pick. Anything raised over the goal becomes a gift card too. Nothing is stranded — if a gift can't be fulfilled at all, contributions are refunded to the guests who gave them.
Do I need to connect a bank account?+
No — and you never will. Budling doesn't pay money out to you, so there's no bank setup, no identity verification, and no payout to wait for. Funded gifts arrive at your door; leftovers arrive as a retailer gift card by email. Setting up takes 3 minutes and the only thing we need is a shipping address.
Do guests need an account or an app?+
No. Guests open your link and give in one tap with Apple Pay, Google Pay, or card — no sign-up, nothing to download. They can attach a note, photo, or short video with their gift, which arrives privately to you.
Is the money safe?+
Guest payments are processed by Stripe, the same payment platform behind millions of businesses. Budling never holds balances for you and never touches your bank details — contributions are collected for a specific gift and settled shortly after your event as a shipped gift or a retailer gift card. If a gift can't be fulfilled, contributions are refunded to the guests who gave them.
Can I add gifts from Amazon or other stores?+
Yes — paste any product link into Budling and we'll pull in the photo, name, and price automatically. Amazon, Target, Etsy, small shops — if it has a product page, it works. No browser extension needed. Besides the group gift, you can add side gifts that guests buy directly at the store, shipped to you like any online order.
What about shipping, tax, and returns on the group gift?+
Your funding goal includes an estimate for tax and shipping, so “fully funded” really means fully funded. Gifts ship new from the retailer with their standard warranty. If something arrives damaged or wrong, contact us and we'll sort the exchange with the retailer — you won't be stuck in a returns queue.
Can family give to a 529 college fund?+
Yes, if you want. Flip on the college fund option and your page shows your UGift code — family can give directly to your child's 529 plan through UGift, which works with 30+ state plans (my529, NY 529, Bright Start, Invest529, and more). Those gifts go straight from the giver to the plan; Budling never handles them. Totally optional.
Who can see my child's page, and the notes guests leave?+
By default your page is link-only: it never appears in any search, and only people you share the link with can open it. Guests who lose the link can find it with your child's first name plus the 4-digit code from your invitation — never by browsing. Notes, photos, and videos are private to you, paired with each gift on your dashboard, and you can send personalized thank-you cards back to everyone in a few clicks.
How does Budling make money?+
When we buy your funded gift or a guest buys a side gift through your page, the retailer pays us a small commission — the same way cashback sites work. It never changes the price you or your guests see. Guests can also leave an optional tip. That's it: no platform fees, no subscriptions, no cut of the gifts.
